Summary in English
Once upon a time, there lived an old couple. They had a pet dog. They didn't have any children. They loved the dog as if it were a man's child. The dog's name was Muko. The caring couple used to feed the dog with their personal thorns. In return, the dog also loved them very much.
The old man
was a farmer. Every morning, Muko followed him to the fields. A heron used to
catch insects while walking near the farmer's feet. Like his master, the dog
also never harmed the bird.
One day the
dog put its paws between the legs of the old man. With his head, he started
pointing towards someplace behind. To keep his pet's heart, the old man
followed him. The dog stopped at a short distance from there. It started scratching
that place. To help his pet, the old man hit his spade on the ground. Now in
front of him was a pile of gold.
Thus the old
couple became rich. They hosted their friends and helped their poor neighbors.
In the same village lived an evil old man and his wife. They brought that dog
to their garden. They put good food in front of him. But the dog was scared. It
neither ate (anything) nor did he move.
They dragged
the dog out of the house. They kept walking with him. When they reached near a
palm tree, the dog started scratching the ground. The evil couple celebrated.
They both dug the ground. (Inside) They found the dead kitten. The couple got
very angry. He killed the dog. Then they threw it into their dug pit. They put
soil on the dead animal.
The news of
the dog's death reached its owner. He felt sad as if his son had been
separated. He went to the place where his pet was buried. He moaned for a long
time. She called him by many cute names as if he were alive. That night he saw
his dog in a dream. The dog told him that he should cut the palm and make a mortar
(okhli) out of it. He also asked him to make a wood mill.
The old man
did as he was told. With great effort he made a small wooden bowl. Then he made
a wooden pestle with a long handle. When the new year drew near, she decided to
make some rice pastries. He put boiled rice in a wooden crate. To make a dough
out of it, the old man crushed it with a pestle. When the pastry was ready to
be baked, it turned into a pile of gold coins. The old lady raised her
hand-mill and started grinding it by pouring bean sauce into it. It started
raining like gold. Just then the jealous neighbor peeped through the window. He
decided to ask for a mill loan.
The old
couple immediately gave their mill to the neighbour. The man started grinding
the rice and the woman started grinding the mill. But this time the pastries
and sauces turned into insects. They cut the mill into pieces and made it wood
for burning.

एक दिन कुत्ते ने अपने पंजे बूढ़े आदमी के पैरों के बीच रख दिए। सिर के बल पीछे किसी जगह की ओर इशारा करने लगा। अपने पालतू जानवर का दिल रखने के लिए बूढ़े ने उसका पीछा किया। कुत्ता वहां से कुछ ही दूरी पर रुक गया। उसने उस जगह को खरोंचना शुरू कर दिया। अपने पालतू जानवर की मदद करने के लिए बूढ़े ने अपनी कुदाल को जमीन पर पटक दिया। अब उसके सामने सोने का ढेर था।
इस प्रकार बूढ़ा जोड़ा अमीर बन गया। उन्होंने अपने दोस्तों की मेजबानी की और अपने गरीब पड़ोसियों की मदद की। उसी गाँव में एक दुष्ट बूढ़ा और उसकी पत्नी रहते थे। वे उस कुत्ते को अपने बगीचे में ले आए। उन्होंने उसके सामने अच्छा खाना रखा। लेकिन कुत्ता डर गया। उसने न कुछ खाया (न कुछ) और न हिलता।
उन्होंने कुत्ते को घर से बाहर खींच लिया। वे उसके साथ चलते रहे। जब वे एक ताड़ के पेड़ के पास पहुंचे तो कुत्ते ने जमीन को खुरचना शुरू कर दिया। दुष्ट जोड़े ने जश्न मनाया। दोनों ने जमीन खोदी। (अंदर) उन्हें मृत बिल्ली का बच्चा मिला। दंपति को बहुत गुस्सा आया। उसने कुत्ते को मार डाला। फिर उन्होंने उसे अपने खोदे गए गड्ढे में फेंक दिया। वे मरे हुए जानवर पर मिट्टी डालते हैं।
कुत्ते की मौत की खबर उसके मालिक तक पहुंची। उसे ऐसा लगा जैसे उसका बेटा अलग हो गया हो। वह उस जगह गया जहां उसके पालतू जानवर को दफनाया गया था। वह काफी देर तक कराहता रहा। उसने उसे कई प्यारे नामों से पुकारा जैसे कि वह जीवित हो। उस रात उसने सपने में अपने कुत्ते को देखा। कुत्ते ने उससे कहा कि वह हथेली काटकर उसमें से एक मोर्टार (ओखली) बना ले। उसने उसे लकड़ी की चक्की बनाने के लिए भी कहा।
बूढ़े ने वैसा ही किया जैसा उसे बताया गया था। बड़ी मेहनत से उसने लकड़ी का एक छोटा कटोरा बनाया। फिर उसने एक लंबे हैंडल से लकड़ी का मूसल बनाया। जब नया साल नजदीक आया, तो उसने कुछ चावल की पेस्ट्री बनाने का फैसला किया। उन्होंने उबले हुए चावल को लकड़ी के टोकरे में रखा। इसका आटा बनाने के लिए, बूढ़े ने इसे मूसल से कुचल दिया। जब पेस्ट्री बेक होने के लिए तैयार हुई, तो वह सोने के सिक्कों के ढेर में बदल गई। बुढ़िया ने हाथ की चक्की उठाई और उसमें सेम की चटनी डालकर पीसने लगी। सोने की तरह बारिश होने लगी। तभी ईर्ष्यालु पड़ोसी ने खिड़की से झाँका। उसने एक मिल ऋण मांगने का फैसला किया।
वृद्ध दंपत्ति ने तुरंत अपनी चक्की पड़ोसी को दे दी। वह आदमी चावल पीसने लगा और महिला चक्की पीसने लगी। लेकिन इस बार पेस्ट्री और सॉस कीड़ों में बदल गए। उन्होंने चक्की को टुकड़ों में काट दिया और इसे जलाने के लिए लकड़ी बना दिया।
