There was a king who believed that to be a successful king
it is very important to know the answers to three questions. these were the
questions
What is the right
time to start something?
Whom should he listen to?
What is the most important job for him?
The king sent his messengers everywhere and asked to find people to answer these questions correctly. Many wise men came, but the answers to the questions they gave were completely different. In response to the first question, some said that the king should follow a fixed time-table, while some said that it cannot be decided that what is the most appropriate time to do a task?
Similarly, in response to the second question, some said
that the king should listen to his 'council of ministers', while some said that
he should listen to the priest. Some people were of the opinion that the king
should listen to his doctor, while others believed that the king should listen
to his soldier. In response to the third question, some wise men said that the
most important work of the king should be the priority of science, while others
said that religion should be his priority.
The king was not satisfied because of the difference in the
answers to the questions. He did not give any reward to any of those wise men
and decided that he would take advice from an ascetic living in the forest. The
ascetic used to meet only ordinary people, so the king Dressed like ordinary
people, left his horse and bodyguards and headed towards the ascetic's hut. The
ascetic was an old man and he was digging a pit in front of his house. The king
told the old man that he had come to know the answers to his questions and he
repeated all the questions.
The ascetic continued to dig the pit without answering.
After some time, when the ascetic got tired, the king offered him his help. The
king kept digging the pit till evening. In the evening, the king again
requested the ascetic and asked for answers to his questions, but at the same
time a person came running towards the ascetic's hut.
A man came running towards them, who had placed one hand on
his injured stomach. The king cleaned the wound and tied a bandage on his wound
to stop the flow of blood. The man felt some relief and asked for water. The
king and the ascetic together took the person inside the hut. The man was lying
quietly and being tired, the king also slept on the ground there.
When the king opened his eyes in the morning, he found the
injured man apologizing. The man told the king that he had come to take revenge
on him, as he had killed his brother and took away all his property. He had
thought of killing the king on his return from the ascetic's house, but the
king's bodyguards caught hold of him and injured him.
After this, when the king came out to see the ascetic, who
was sowing the seeds at that time. In those pits that were dug the previous
day. The king requested the ascetic for the last time and asked for answers to
his questions. In response, the ascetic said that he has got answers to his
questions. If he had not taken pity on the condition of the ascetic, tomorrow
when he was returning from the road, that person would have attacked him and
perhaps even lost his life. So the most important time was during the
excavation of that pit and the ascetic was its most important man. When the
injured person came there it was important. That was the time.
While he was taking care of her and if this had not happened, the person could have died and they would never be able to reconcile their deeds. So at that point of time the injured man had become the most important and taking care of him was the most important thing. The ascetic told the king that the most important time is 'now', because that is the only time we should be ready to work. The most important person at some point of time is all of us, because the future is unknown and we all have uncertainties about the future, when, who will we meet? The most important thing is to do good to others because we have come into this world for this noble cause.

प्रश्नों के उत्तर में अंतर के कारण राजा संतुष्ट नहीं था। उसने उन बुद्धिमानों में से किसी को भी कोई इनाम नहीं दिया और फैसला किया कि वह जंगल में रहने वाले एक तपस्वी से सलाह लेगा। तपस्वी साधारण लोगों से ही मिलते थे, इसलिए राजा सामान्य लोगों की तरह कपड़े पहने, अपने घोड़े और अंगरक्षकों को छोड़कर तपस्वी की कुटिया की ओर चल पड़े। तपस्वी एक बूढ़ा आदमी था और वह अपने घर के सामने एक गड्ढा खोद रहा था। राजा ने बूढ़े आदमी से कहा कि उसे उसके सवालों के जवाब पता चल गए हैं और उसने सभी सवालों को दोहराया।
तपस्वी बिना उत्तर दिए गड्ढा खोदता रहा। कुछ समय बाद जब तपस्वी थक गया तो राजा ने उसकी सहायता की पेशकश की। राजा शाम तक गड्ढा खोदता रहा। शाम को, राजा ने फिर से तपस्वी से अनुरोध किया और अपने प्रश्नों के उत्तर मांगे, लेकिन उसी समय एक व्यक्ति तपस्वी की कुटिया की ओर दौड़ता हुआ आया।
एक आदमी उनकी ओर दौड़ता हुआ आया, जिसने उसके घायल पेट पर एक हाथ रखा था। राजा ने घाव को साफ किया और रक्त के प्रवाह को रोकने के लिए उसके घाव पर पट्टी बांध दी। उस आदमी ने कुछ राहत महसूस की और पानी मांगा। राजा और तपस्वी मिलकर उस व्यक्ति को कुटिया के अंदर ले गए। वह आदमी चुपचाप लेटा हुआ था और थककर राजा भी वहीं जमीन पर सो गया।
सुबह राजा ने जब आंखें खोलीं तो देखा कि घायल व्यक्ति क्षमा मांग रहा है। उस आदमी ने राजा से कहा कि वह उससे बदला लेने आया है, क्योंकि उसने उसके भाई को मार डाला था और उसकी सारी संपत्ति ले ली थी। उसने तपस्वी के घर से लौटने पर राजा को मारने का विचार किया था, लेकिन राजा के अंगरक्षकों ने उसे पकड़ लिया और उसे घायल कर दिया।
यदि राजा ने उसकी सहायता न की होती तो वह मर जाता। उसने राजा को मारने के अपने विचार पर खेद व्यक्त किया और जीवन भर के लिए उसका भरोसेमंद सेवक बनने का फैसला किया। राजा जब अपने शत्रु का मित्र बन गया तो वह बहुत खुश हुआ। उसने उसे माफ कर दिया और उसकी सारी संपत्ति उसे वापस कर दी।
इसके बाद जब राजा उस तपस्वी को देखने के लिए निकले जो उस समय बीज बो रहे थे। उन गड्ढों में जो पिछले दिन खोदे गए थे। राजा ने तपस्वी से अंतिम बार अनुरोध किया और उनके प्रश्नों के उत्तर मांगे। जवाब में तपस्वी ने कहा कि उन्हें उनके सवालों का जवाब मिल गया है। अगर उसने तपस्वी की दशा पर दया न की होती तो कल जब वह सड़क से लौट रहा होता तो वह उस पर हमला कर देता और शायद उसकी जान भी चली जाती। तो सबसे महत्वपूर्ण समय उस गड्ढे की खुदाई के दौरान का था और तपस्वी उसका सबसे महत्वपूर्ण व्यक्ति था। जब घायल व्यक्ति वहां आया तो वह महत्वपूर्ण था। वह समय था।
जबकि वह उसकी देखभाल कर रहा था और अगर ऐसा नहीं हुआ होता, तो व्यक्ति की मृत्यु हो सकती थी और वे कभी भी अपने कर्मों में सामंजस्य नहीं बिठा पाते थे। तो उस समय घायल व्यक्ति सबसे महत्वपूर्ण हो गया था और उसकी देखभाल करना सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात थी। तपस्वी ने राजा से कहा कि सबसे महत्वपूर्ण समय 'अभी' है, क्योंकि यही वह समय है जब हमें काम करने के लिए तैयार रहना चाहिए। किसी समय सबसे महत्वपूर्ण व्यक्ति हम सभी हैं, क्योंकि भविष्य अज्ञात है और हम सभी को भविष्य के बारे में अनिश्चितता है, हम कब, किससे मिलेंगे? सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात दूसरों का भला करना है, क्योंकि हम इस नेक काम के लिए इस दुनिया में आए हैं।
